“Boomerang”*

In an effort to develop cross-country skills and promote some friendly competition among area clubs, the SSS has instituted “Boomerang.” The rules associated with “Boomerang” are simple. Once a club has received “Boomerang,” it is their duty to return it to the offending club as soon as possible. “Boomerang” shall occupy a conspicuous place of honor somewhere in the defending club’s ops shack/gazebo.  “Boomerang” can only be delivered in a sailplane which must drop off tow no closer to the target than their home base, and no higher than 2500’ AGL. The offending club is free to decorate and/or desecrate “Boomerang” so that there is no doubt which club holds the honor of the last throw.  It is considered proper etiquette for the defending club to provide the visiting pilot an aero-tow back to 2500' upon delivery if possible.

The first "Boomerang" was delivered to the Southern Eagles of La Grange, Georgia by Bob Hey on his 72 mile cross country flight in August of 2004. They report making plans to throw it back our way.  We're waiting!................

A second “Boomerang" currently resides at the Flying X, home of the Birmingham Soaring Society.  It was delivered by Cliff Hindman on September 5th, 2004 on a 43 minute flight in the ASW-15.
