By RoadThe club conducts most of its flight operations at Merkel Field in Sylacauga, Alabama. The airport is just west of U.S. Route 280. If you arrive by road, turn off Hwy 280 onto Airport Road at the Texaco station. A small Airport sign also marks the turn.
By AirIf you arrive by air, Merkel Field (KSCD) has a common traffic advisory frequency of 122.8 MHz. The field elevation is 569 ft. Runway 09-27 is 5390 x 100 ft. Watch for glider traffic up to 8,000 ft. MSL in VFR conditions on weekends and holidays. As always, watch for men and equipment on the runway. We try to operate off of the grassy area between the taxi ways north of the runway when possible.
