When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with
your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you will
always long to return. Welcome to the official web site of the Sylacauga Soaring Society, - Alabama's newest and most active non-profit soaring club. Memberships are available!! $300.00 initiation fee, and dues are currently $60.00 per month. Typical aero-tow is about $30.00 (a tow to 2,500' agl). The charges run $1.00 per hundred of altitude towed plus a $5.00 hook up fee. Our club has prospered since starting up in 2004 and as a result we now have a membership count that is currently over 30 members. The club owns four aircraft (two two seaters) and seven additional member owned sailplanes that fly with us. Come and join us at the Sylacauga Airport, a truly great venue for soaring. We operate mostly off the grass between a 5000' runway and the taxi way. We can be found in the sky's above Sylacauga and the surrounding area almost any weekend when the weather is good. Visitors are welcome to drop in and get all their questions answered or simply observe our operations. We have a $99.00 "Fast Start" Packages for those that want a demo flight. The Fast Start includes a 30 day membership in the Sylacauga club and in the SSA, our national organization, flight & ground time with an instructor, flight log book, and a soaring flight manual. This package is designed to be both introductory to those new to flying and a demo for power pilots that may be interested in a add on rating for gliders.
At the SSS we promote flying safety above all else. Our goals are
to bring student's along with quality instruction and to expand each
pilot's abilities in multiple areas including cross country flights.
